Anika Vavić:
An Orchestral Disposition
Born in Belgrade, Anika Vavic has lived in Vienna since she was 16. She studied here, but the Russian pianistic school presumably influenced her greatly. After all, her brilliant, powerful playing has a certain orchestral disposition, reminiscent of Russian pianists. The fact that she never loses her way within the tide of sounds is guaranteed by her classical sense of form.
Her Beethoven (Sonata No. 7) sounds as if it were hewn out of a rock, and even in Schumann's Kreisleriana with all its conflicting emotions, she is always in control.
A strong, impressive CD which stands out from the flood of new releases.
Anika Vavic; Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Prokofiev (Gramola)
